44 years of your life Darling...

1968 April - 2012 August

Peter was born in Todwick on 5th of April 1968. There he grew up surrounded by family and a very wide circle of friends. Peter went to Todwick Primary School and the large amount of childhood friendships developed further and the bonds with all those fantastic kids from the village and beyond got stronger all the time. The majority of these friendships lasted throughout Peter’s entire life. It’s extremely difficult to mention all the names and to not miss any, as Peter was so popular, known and loved by a huge amount of people. He spent a few years in Carlton-in-Lindrick, with a change of school due to family circumstances, and then went back to Todwick. The same circle of Peter’s wonderful friends from Todwick and its surrounding areas – both boys and girls – went to Wales Comprehensive in Kiveton. After school, Peter started working in the electrical industry and also moved to North Anston. Whilst living in Anston he got married for the first time, however this marriage broke-down, eventually resulting in divorce. In November 2004, his new life started when he found Hanna, a Polish girl living and working in Brecon, South Wales. After a while both Peter and Hanna thought that the distance between Wales and South Yorkshire was too big and didn’t let them to see each other often enough. At the beginning of January 2005 Hanna moved to North Anston. It was a happy, exciting time; full of positive challenges, love, friendship, learning about each other every day all over again, going out together, sharing friends. Peter and Hanna went together for their first holiday to Poland. They got engaged on Hanna’s birthday in December 2005. Both Peter and Hanna carried on working but spent all their leisure time together: evenings, nights, and weekends. They married in Poland on 9th of September 2006. So many friends and family members travelled over to Poland from the UK, and the Polish ones also came to celebrate this happy event. Hanna became pregnant in February 2007 and on 30th November 2007, Peter’s and Hanna’s most longed-for son, Matthew, is born. Peter was with Hanna during her labour in a Bassetlaw Hospital. Together with the midwife Peter was the first to see Matthew arrive into this world. Peter shouted loud with excitement and happiness: “It’s a boy, it’s a boy”. Both happy parents registered the birth of their first, and only, most loved child. After that came Matthew’s first smile, first tooth, first Christmas together, first step, first word and so on. Both parents had Matthew Christened at St Joseph’s Church in Dinnington. Peter and Hanna experienced all the ups and downs of parenthood. The family enjoyed what childhood had to offer. Hanna, passionate about photography, took thousands of photographs, constantly filling-in family albums, discs and the space on the computers. Photos and videos are taken, nearly every day. The family moved house from Anston to Worksop in March 2009. Peter, Hanna and Matthew started attending Sunday services at the Priory Church and Clumber Church Chapel, with Fr Philip and Fr Spicer. When Matthew was a bit older he started going to Sunday school. The shorter distance and later Sunday service meant the family also started attending St John’s Church in Carlton-in-Lindrick and its Sunday school. Friendships developed through both churches. At the same time the family settled down in their new home, among new nice neighbours, in the beautiful surroundings of the Gateford estate. Gradually Peter and Hanna started decorating the house together, tidying-up the garden and bonding with people from the area. Peter continued to work at the same company, Matthew attended local pre-school and is getting ready to start St John’s Primary School in September 2012. Hanna looked after the family, doing housework, further training courses and worked on and off to help with financial support for the family. Everything was normal up to Easter 2012. Peter enjoyed his 44th birthday with his wife and son but on Thursday the 18th of April, the first and the only symptoms of his illness occurred. On the 3rd of May, he received the terrible diagnosis of a 7cm cancer in his left kidney. On 25th of May, the kidney was removed at Doncaster Hospital. Shortly afterwards he had a nasty infection, Peter felt very ill all the time and was not getting better. Both Peter and Hanna were very concerned but were reassured by medical professionals that it was safe to go on holiday and relax. They went to Northumberland to stay at their friend’s caravan. However, the next day they visited Alnwick A&E for checks for their peace of mind. Peter was transferred to Wansbeck General Hospital in Ashington. A further CT scan showed that a massive cancer had come back into the area where the kidney had been. About a week later Peter was transferred to Weston Park Cancer Hospital in Sheffield. Further scans showed the metastasis of the cancer into the stomach and lungs just over a week after the previous scan. Doctors considered performing experimental treatment; however Peter was already too weak, considered not fit enough to go through with the treatment. Peter’s wife and parents received the devastating news that nothing else could be done for him. Peter and Hanna requested that he be transferred back home. This is where Peter spent the last 2 days of his life; with Hanna, Matthew and his mother-in-law, Irena. Peter died on Saturday morning at 10.05 after suffering for almost 4 months. Hanna and her mum were both present during the death...
